Q: I took an exam in the past but I do not see the
eligible list online. Why not?
A: The web site only
displays active eligible lists. The eligible list that you were on may
have expired.
Q: Do all the scores display
online?
A: No. Only passing candidates? scores will be
displayed online.
Q: What does the word, "Status" mean?
A: The "Status" column will have one of three
values, "Active" , "Inactive," or "Appointed." If your status is active,
you are eligible to be canvassed. If your status is inactive, your name
will not be certified from this eligible list (ex. If you replied to a
canvass as temporarily unavailable, or requested inactive status). If your
status is appointed, you have received an appointment from the eligible
list and will not be receiving any more canvasses from this list.
Q: Why didn't my name go out on a canvass even though
my status on the eligible list is active?
A: You may
have restrictions based on previous canvass responses. For instance, if
you responded to a canvass that you were not interested in any jobs with a
salary less than $20,000, then you will not be certified for any positions
with a salary less than $20,000, but you are still eligible to be
certified for positions with salaries higher than $20,000.
Q: The eligible list I am on says "continuous
recruitment" . What does that mean?
A: A continuous
recruitment exam is one that is held periodically. The names from each
holding of the exam are interfiled with past exams to produce a continuous
recruitment eligible list. If you have taken a continuous recruitment
exam, you will receive results in the mail for that exam only.
If you have taken the continuous recruitment exam for the same title
multiple times, your name will be listed with each active administration.
Your name will be sent out on canvasses with the highest score you
received. Any restrictions you place upon the highest score will remain
until you remove them by writing to our office.
Only candidates who are currently active will be displayed on the
web.
Q: How do I get my name back on the eligible
list?
A: Place your reinstatement request in writing
to our office. Be sure to include your name, your social security number
and the list to which you wish to be reinstated.
Q: I recently took an exam. How will I know when the
eligible list is available on this web site?
A: Once
you receive a notice in the mail with your score, the list will be
available on-line for your viewing.
Q: Why would a person with a lower score than mine
receive an appointment from the eligible list?
A: Civil service law requires that appointments be made from among one of the
three highest scoring candidates interested in appointment (for more
information on the "rule of three", go to this "FAQ"link: http://www.ongov.net/Employment/faqs/home.html).
It may also appear as though a candidate who is not in the top three has
been appointed. The information you are viewing is a compilation of
the canvass results and, depending on the eligible list, this may be from
a variety of agencies. These agencies have different salaries, work
schedules, geographic locations; some have residence preference or
requirements. These varying factors impact a candidate's interest
and eligibility for each position. To verify all appointments are
made in accordance with civil service law and rules, our staff reviews
each results of canvass. |
